Why surrender to God?

Why surrender to God?

The previous ten lessons in the Workbook of A Course in Miracles give us some excellent reasons and benefits for doing so. The titles are:

Lesson 40; “I am Blessed as a son of God.”

Lesson 41; “God goes with me wherever I go.”

Lesson 42; “God is my Strength. Vision is his Gift.

Lesson 43; “God is my Source. I cannot see apart from Him.”

Lesson 44; “God is the Light in which I see.”

Lesson 45; “God is the Mind with which I think.”

Lesson 46; “God is the Love in which I forgive.”

Lesson 47; “God is the strength in which I trust.”

Lesson 48; “There is nothing to fear.”

Lesson 49; “God’s Voice speaks to me all through the day.”

Lesson 50; “I am sustained by the Love of God.”

All of these are very beautiful sentiments for surrendering to God, however they would mean very little if there were God and “something else”. In the world of duality there is God AND something else. In the world of duality there is Good AND Evil. There is a Good God and an evil god.

In the world of non-duality there is only ONE God and this God is Good. A Good that is beyond the duality of Good and evil a Good with no opposite because this God is ALL encompassing and what is All encompassing can have no opposites. It is a Good which symbolizes a beyond Good which infers its opposite.

In the Introduction to ACIM we read; “The opposite of Love is fear, but what is all-encompassing can have no opposite. This course therefore can be summed up very simply in this way: Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God.”

It is because ONLY God is Real and Only this God exists does surrendering to God make sense. There is no God “out there” because there is no “out there”. “You shall have no other Gods before me.”[Ex. 20.3] because there are no other gods. And “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.” Deut.6:4 This is the ONE that doesn’t have a two.

We as a Son of God are blessed because we are already IN God and God is in us. There is no place where God is not and if God is “in” something even in the tiniest bit He is there in His totality.

Why is it that every person that has ever lived has it in their heart to seek their good? I’m not speaking of the means the majority have chosen but that there is an inward pressure in all mankind to seek and find their Good. No matter what it is, do you not believe it will bring you to your Good? If you have picked the wrong means you will find out in due time so you can change your mind and try another path.

How about Lesson 48 above? “The idea for today simply states a fact” Would you like to fear nothing, including God? Is not that your ultimate Good. Jesus states in the Bible; “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world [dualistic world] gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled [fear, worry and anxiety]; do not be afraid.” John 14:27 Also Paul in Philippians 2:6-8 “Be anxious [afraid, worry] for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.” Brackets mine.

Can you name now just exactly what your mind is seeking? You would soon be set on the right track for finding what you are seeking if you would name what you want. The naming of what the mind of whole world is seeking is the first statement of Jesus Christ, and the first lesson of Moses. It is the foundation thought, even in the minds of the insects. It is the Good. Are you not seeking Good?….So you see that the Good draws everything. The Good which you and I want governs everything we do. Therefore the Good which you are seeking is your God….The Good which you are seeking created you. Just that Good which you want is the combination of words which brought you forth. The honest statement ‘My Good is my God’ has the power to set the mind to a key which is nearer to it’s normal tone than it is now thinking.” Emma Curtis Hopkins; Scientific Christian Mental Practice. [bold mine]

Surrendering to God is just the recognition of who we are in relationship to the ALL-ENCOMPASSING presence of Divinity. An acknowledgment of the Truth of LIFE. When you are in the ocean you surrender to the truth of your position. When you breath you surrender to the atmosphere in which you LIVE.
